MY STORY: Is Chi for Christians?

by Tamara Laing, MRET

Stress was tearing my family apart. We were catapulted into the role of emergency room attendants without any training.  My youngest daughter was extremely anxious and repeatedly suicidal. We did all of the medical field’s “talk and dose” recommendations for years. Yet, she was still hospitalized three times. There were various rounds of pharmaceutical “cocktails.” One medication caused her to gain 40 pounds in six weeks.  That was not helpful for a teenage girl who was already depressed! Due to her sister’s suicidal tendencies, our other teenage daughter was afraid to live in the same house and moved out for months with our permission. My husband paced the floor at night worrying over how to pay for all of the medical bills our insurance refused to touch because it was a mental illness: Schizo-affective disorder bipolar type.

I felt in my heart that there had to be other avenues of help. I was fasting weekly during the worst months and praying to know what to do. Quiet answers came to call my past bishop’s wife. I wondered how a stay-at-home mom would have any help for a teen who was cutting. I finally phoned who I will call “Sue.”

I didn’t know Sue was doing Rapid Eye Technology (RET) and generational healing. Sue said there was a field of light (which carries information) energy in and around people where issues could be dealt with. What a huge blessing being open-minded about that proved to be! The clearing processes she did with my daughter helped immensely! Quantum physicists relate the life energy she spoke of to subtle energy or “dynamic flows of information.”[Michael von Brück,2014; Marcus Schmieke, 2021] Scientists call some issues we face, “secondary PTSD” because we inherit the memories and emotions that our ancestors didn’t process. The Bible calls these curses of the fathers passed down to the third and fourth generation.

I was astounded at the changes my daughter made releasing trapped family patterns. Sue used RET, which replicated the REM sleep cycle while awake with blinking and breathing, and a technique called Deep Emotion Release (DER) to discharge the unresolved energy of emotions my daughter experienced or were passed down to her. Both processes released distress out the eyes. DER began with what Kenneth Fabian, MD, called Neurological Integration. Sue saw ancestor faces in front of her client’s physical face during DER. A string of pained looks might flash by on various ancestor faces. Then the last, possibly distorted faces, would disappear and her clients felt improved. My daughter’s National Alliance on Mental Illness support group was amazed at the quick turn-arounds these techniques made for my daughter!

I certified in RET and started using Deep Emotion Release as a prayerful process with my family. When I did DER, my daughter said she felt “more like herself.” We saw and recognized our own grandmothers’ faces while doing DER. Neighbors came and witnessed the differences both eye-release processes made. I accepted clients and even in first-time appointments, people could sometimes see deceased ancestor’s faces during Deep Emotion Release.

I looked online to learn about energy work from a Christian viewpoint. I only found a few websites where people were bashing energy healing - warning others to stay away from it entirely. However, I knew that God had led me to it! Energy work had possibly saved my daughter’s life! It was entirely upsetting that negative views toward the whole field of energy medicine were the only information I could find at that time concerning a Christian perspective.

It felt like I was standing alone, but I worked up the courage to start a blogspot. I spoke up online saying God had led me to help in Energy Medicine and my daughter was doing so much better! Readers online were grateful.

I was blessed to hear about a chiropractor turned Stress Management Counselor who had rave reviews. He based his practice on forgiveness work. Our teenage daughter had an appointment with Jan Graf (now deceased) where she spent two hours forgiving out loud and learning to take charge of the energy in her space. Afterward, Jan said: “I think you have your daughter back!” She had lost every ache and pain in her mind and body. She said she felt like she did before she ever became ill. We learned up close how much forgiveness affects us physically. Harboring feelings can make a person physically and mentally unwell.

Shortly after I found her, Sue was asked to stop her work because someone put in a complaint at her local congregation. God had led me to a paradox!

I felt compelled to learn what life force energy was. I read dozens of books about energy healing. There were a wide variety of techniques but almost all spoke of a universal life-giving energy behind them. What was it? Eventually, Sue was exonerated of the false charge.

I heard spiritual promptings to write down what I learned, so I took notes, recorded quotations that stood out and noted references. I felt unexplained joy reading leading-edge scientific articles about how people emit biophoton light. I learned that quantum principles validated foundational principles used in energy medicine.  The Holy Spirit told me to stop reading the world’s books and to read from religious authors.

Answers started showing up effortlessly at times. I was led to obscure quotes by early leaders of my faith who taught about a subtle, universal energy of science; they related it to the light of Christ. This connected three disparate fields of study! Christianity, quantum science and energy medicine all spoke of people radiating light information without bounds of time or distance. God teaches in Doctrine & Covenants 88 about a life-giving light that fills the universe. Jesus Christ says repeatedly that He is the “light” (or energy) and the “life” (or life-force) of the world! From Him comes the life-giving energy some call Chi. I feel called to share the message that Chi is for Christians! Quiet whispers urged me to put my notes in illustrated form which became my first book, Healing Arts – A Gift from God.

Several women have told me about showing authoritative quotes in my book to their questioning bishops. Then their bishops said they were fine with the energy-based work the women were doing. God addresses boundaries in scripture.  Today, the website ChurchofJesusChrist.com defines the Light of Christ as divine energy that gives life and light to all things and is related to conscience.

Over the next decade doing DER with clients and “tune-up” sessions with my daughter, I heard promptings suggest things such as, “have them forgive ancestors.” I followed these promptings and researched why such was necessary. I found scriptures answering my questions. God not only established covenant curses in the Old Testament, but also what could be done to reverse them! Additionally, I found medical doctors touting the emotional and physical benefits of generational work forgiving ancestors.

Promptings urged me to take a Praise Principles class from Judy Dunston. She learned by experience to thank God for her trials and even to praise Him for them. I aspired to apply this in my own life and found it was life-changing. I praised God when my husband suddenly lost his job and was able to get through trials with more grace. I praised God when trouble began again years later with my youngest daughter experiencing post-partum psychosis - and we were greatly blessed to be told about Empowerplus, a vitamin/mineral supplement in the right ratio for the brain, scientifically studied for coping, calm and clarity. Voicing gratitude and praise got me through trials that previously might have undone me.

I added the two principles of gratitude and praise in all things to the DER process. Remarkably, these steps helped even the most distressed clients who had been through unspeakably horrific ordeals. It was changing their perceptions. Discovering and voicing “silver linings” to trials boosted clients physically and emotionally. My clients asked for instructions on how to clear distress from themselves in between sessions.

Sue had taught that people could work on themselves gazing in a mirror with deep love. I outlined practical fill-in-the-blank steps to do Deep Emotion Release, including Jan Graf’s forgiveness process and steps to move up to feelings of gratitude and praise. I was astounded that Odes of Solomon 13 described the expanded DER process God had added upon in years of tutoring me. “Behold! The Lord is our mirror: open the eyes and see them in him: and learn the manner of your face: And tell forth praise to His spirit: and wipe the filth from your face…”  Distortions in ancestor’s pained faces cleared as we used forgiveness, gratitude and praise principles.

The step-by-step instructions, safe-guards and validating religious quotes I found became my second book: a hands-on approach to generational clearing in the eyes.  People who learn DER are teaching it to others. It’s a true joy to know that the pain my family suffered now pays dividends. I cannot vouch for how others do energy work, but I can make certain I follow principles of light and truth.  The practitioners I know with faith to use quantum principles are some of the finest people I know. They are peacemakers alleviating suffering - even while others misjudge them!

As the current health paradigm shifts, some voices cry out against natural forms of healing that use quantum science-based energy principles. I see critical voices as an expected step in the Kuhn cycle of paradigm change. Society doesn’t just suddenly get an increase of wisdom, there is resistance to major innovations. Staying grateful for pushback - that actually propels change forward - enables those of us living the new quantum health principles to stay the course. We all can practice staying in gratitude – even for opposition faced. When enough of us aspire to live in such higher consciousness in all things, perhaps world views will shift more quickly!
